COACH JAMES COLZIE III TALKS X’S AND O’S
“Understanding the need to win this football game, obviously the last few weeks here at home we didn’t play our best football. We had to make sure we continue to fight and I thought the guys did a great job with that,” FAMU Head Coach James Colzie III said.
During the first half of the game FAMU fell behind 14-9. In the second half that great job the Rattlers were looking for came to fruition. FAMU outscoring the Alcorn State Braves 24 to 14 to win the game. With 3:35 remaining in the contest Goldie Lawrence ran the football in 33 yards for the touchdown putting FAMU ahead 33 to 21. Alcorn State used three plays to make 52 yards late in the game when quarterback Jaylon Tolbert passing the football to Ja’Coby Matthews for the Braves touchdown the FAMU lead was cut to five. But FAMU was a team of destiny determined to win their Homecoming game in front of family, friends, and supporters from the pan handle to south Dade.
“I think defensively we wanted to stop the running back,” FAMU Head Coach James Colzie III said. “13 carries for 25 yards, that guy was one of the top rushers in the country. That was one of the things that we made sure that we did.”
The Florida A&M Rattlers starting quarterback RJ Johnson III is a redshirt sophomore from Atlanta, Georgia. After spending two years with the Toledo Rockets and not playing RJ Johnson transferred to FAMU. The transfer quarterback completed 26 of 38 passes, earned 323 yards, passed 1 touchdown. RJ Johnson III also ran for 33 yards, and scored on rushing touchdown.
“I think RJ Johnson obviously showed he played a real good football game almost error free but we’re excited for the win,” FAMU Head Coach James Colzie III said. “Team needed that win, University needed a win, alumni needed the win, we got it done tonight, we will celebrate the 24 hours and get ready for Southern.”
RATTLERS HEADING OUT ON THE ROAD AGAIN
