ORLANDO – Football fans who love the University of Miami Hurricanes program had a unique opportunity to watch the U showcase their 2019 team. The Canes Spring Game was played in Orlando at Camping World Stadium in front of 9,102 people on April 20th. Players and coaches share their take on the Orlando experience.

“I think it just gives a game feel, Coach Diaz and those guys they did a job of just simulating a game time feeling,” Mike Pinckney the Canes senior Linebacker out of Jacksonville Raines HS said. “We was in a hotel, we hung out you know, we traveled so it’s not going to be a shock to younger guys when we travel the first week.”

Statewide football fans in Orlando to watch Miami Hurricanes

“We had a great turnout the fan base really stepped up and turned out today,” Manny Diaz said.

The University of Miami Hurricanes first year head coach Manny Diaz is putting his game plan together for his new vision and direction he want to take the program in. The spring game gives Miami Hurricanes coaches, players, and fans a sneak preview of what the 2019 season will look like.

“I thought there was good execution on both sides,” Manny Diaz said. “I was happy to see all three of our quarterbacks make plays. We believe all three of those guys can play and I think they go into the summer now knowing that.”

Miami Starting Quarterback undecided

The three players competing for the highly coveted starting quarterback position at the U include Tate Martell, who transferred in from Ohio State. N’Kosi Perry the red shirt sophomore QB out of Ocala Vanguard HS, and Jarren Williams also a red shirt freshman QB from Lawrenceville, Georgia where he starred at Central Gwinnett.

New UM Offensive Coordinator

First year Miami Hurricanes offensive coordinator Dan Enos continues working on was ways he envisions Miami to get the football into the red zone and score touchdowns. The former Michigan State quarterback, and offensive coordinator at the University of Alabama is dedicated to help bring the national championship spotlight back to South Florida. Enos believes playing the spring game in Orlando is a great idea.

“I think it’s a huge advantage,” Dan Enos said. “I think Coach Diaz was brilliant for how he did it because we really turned it into a game weekend you know. New staff, a lot of new coaches, new head coach, new routine on Friday before game, new routine day of a game, he put them all through it.”

Miami Spring Football building foundation

Even sophomore tight end Will Mallory out of Jacksonville Providence was impressed with playing in Orlando at Camping World Stadium. Mallory who finished with 3 catches for 63 yards including a 15 yard pass completion for a touchdown understands the impact of a great spring game.

“The first couple weeks were pretty difficult,” Will Mallory said. “I mean a new offense and we did a great job and coach did a great job and I think there’s been a lot of improvement for everyone so it’s been really good for us. We have a lot of work ahead for us.”

The football work will continue for Miami Coach Diaz and his student-athletes.

“We know that we have to continue to improve and the guys know that it is their team,” Manny Diaz said. “They gotta go in the summer and we gotta make a big jump when it comes back for report date and another big jump in training camp to be able to come back here and be victorious August 24th.”
